Salo on 27 July 2005 There are a couple qualities I like about Desiderii Marginis, aside from the great music. One is that they don't release too much stuff, as many fellow artists in their particular genre tend to do. Instead they hold back a bit and make sure that each release is something special. Second is they take a little different musical angle each time, so every album is a new & fresh experience. Whereas the last few Raison d'etre albums have started to get a bit similar, every Desiderii Marginis release is distinct ("ever green" you might say). Mainly of course, it's the excellently crafted music that allows this act to continue to stand out. What exactly makes Desiderii's soundscapes more interesting than so many other dark ambient acts? One virtue that stands out for me is the subtle melodic side. In fact the tasteful balance of melody & atmosphere to be found here reminds me of the work of my own favorite ambient artist Tor Lundvall. For my taste, the first two Desiderii albums are four star releases.
