The Temptations是60年代成立于底特律的黑人合唱团，许多人认为，他们对于Soul的影响就像Beatles对于摇滚乐一样。他们获得过3次葛莱美大奖，出过四张Billboard冠军专辑，拥有14首Billboard冠军单曲。到了1982年，他们的唱片销量就已经超过了2200万张。在滚石杂志评出的最伟大的100位音乐人名单中，他们排在第67位。随着时间的推移，他们的成员多次更替，但至今仍然活跃在美国乐坛。
这张Anthology首次发行的时间是1973年，收录了乐队自1964－1973的黄金年间最优秀的作品，专辑在1986年和1995年又分别发行了两个新的版本，增加了一些新的曲目，这里发布的仍是1973年版本的曲目。
