专辑介绍： 在我的印象中Soul Asylum的经典歌曲是那首《Runaway train》，一首被人们称为顶梁之作。快8年的时间，Soul Asylum（灵魂收容所）终于带来了新的专辑，之前虽然有发行一些精选辑，但是这与上张正式的录音专辑实在相隔的时间太长，让人不得不期待。而我是在几年前才认识这只柔情乐队，说到柔情乐队，对于Soul Asylum来说，是现代作品的形容，要说到Soul Asylum在出道时他们的风格则是与次天与地的差别，Soul Asylum在1983年组建，选择的是垃圾朋克和硬摇滚的风格，而且在为当时美国众多地下乐队之一的Soul Asylum并没有获得好的成绩，当初的风格当然也会有美国地下摇滚的风格American Underground，发行了俩张专辑，他们的影响力仍然不怎么样，直到乐队的主唱David Pirner，耳朵出现些问题，听力明显下降，导致乐队开始尝试些较轻的原声音乐，可以说是因祸得福吧，乐队从次开始的成绩是越来越好，当然就出现了我前面说的顶梁之作《Runaway train》。这张新专辑的风格我认为是一张柔情摇滚专辑，嘈杂的喊声，重重的乐器声，将不出现与新专辑《The Silver Lining》，专辑的制作中加入了Sting，Usher,Janet Jackson这些才华的人制作。而且这张专辑的纪念意义很重，收录了去年六月因喉癌去世的贝斯手卡尔·穆勒(Karl Mueller)的最后的录音。专辑的先行单曲Stand up and be strong，绝对是一首抒情摇滚，很清脆的乐器声，显得歌曲很明朗，很积极。相同的还有Standing water，略带些伤感的色彩。专辑中还有些类似流行摇滚的歌曲，剔除了硬摇的风格。 "It's funny," Dave Pirner ponders in "Success Is Not So Sweet," one of a dozen songs on Soul Asylum's first album since 1998, "how the players can't survive the game." Pirner has obviously come to realize that with accomplishment comes consequence, but with Soul Asylum, it also has brought resilience. After rising from barstool misfits to international pop stars in the early '90s, the band was ostensibly shot out of the sky. Two subsequent records failed to live up to the million-seller Grave Dancer's Union. Pirner's New Orleans home got caught in the middle of Hurricane Katrina. And founding member Karl Mueller lost his battle with cancer. Yet here they are with album number nine, sporting a trace more big league sparkle, but with the frayed cleverness and rock-solid musicianship that their fans know best. Pirner's melody-rich musings "Stand Up and Be Strong," "Lately," and "Bus Named Desire" allow ample elbow room for guitarist Dan Murphy, and his bittersweet ballads hearken back to gold records and runaway trains.
