来自于The Who乐队的一张华丽无比的概念专辑。The Who在这张专辑中率先制造出了“摇滚歌剧”的概念，这种风格被许多后人效仿，例如Queen的A Night At The Opera（歌剧院之夜）就是这种风格的另一巅峰巨作。
Pete Townshend以摇滚歌剧的概念表现出了锐意进取的雄心，专辑中的歌曲则是他由童年到成年所遭受一系列创伤的一次情绪大爆发，非常震撼。
这张专辑推出之后，造成了相当强烈的反响，在1975年，这部摇滚歌剧还被改编成了同名的音乐电影搬上银幕。
本专辑在滚石杂志评出的500张历代最强专辑中排名第96位——我认为还是太低了！
专辑首发于1969年，这里发布的是2003年发行的双碟SACD豪华纪念版。
