This San Diego-based power trio (all of whom play in other bands) invokes the spirit of pure, jamming hard guitar psychedelia, springing from divers golden decade (1967-76) musical influences from Asia to Europe. Blues Creation or Ash Ra Tempel anyone? How about Cosmic Dealer? But don’t get the impression that Earthless is just about recycling obscure bands. I have a feeling that they’d be just as happy to be known for their own twist on the classic Sabbath/Zep mixture, which is quite good indeed. They also invoke Hendrix and his musical progeny (Trower, Brooks), Cream at their most “out there,”or even Hawkwind when Lemmy was driving the bass machine. Point is, it’s all about the sound, the improvisation, the jam, the alkaloids. Although their music may seem to subdivide into “songs,” it’s really all one long song, illuminated and blessed by the Great Eye. And you know, you KNOW these guys just slay live. It’s a given! Huge overdoses of amazing guitar solos, dancing bass and propulsive drums take the top of your head off, going for just as long as Earthless makes ‘em go, and no longer. If you’re “on the bus,” you’ll know what I mean. Anyway, this is the kind of acid jamming that could go on for hours, and you’ll be thankful for every minute.
