何佳俊与离婚妇人张文娴相恋多年，因为年龄悬殊而遭家中反对，遂有离港之念，澳州准其移民申请之日，他央姐姐敏贞代向父母说项，冀于远行之前得父母谅解，与文娴共进晚餐。
敏贞为思想前进的女编辑，与画家男友亦陷入感情危机，常为九七阴影的去留问题而生龃龉，近日又因北而欧 女曼莉芙乌曼访港诞责骑驱逐越南难民而忿忿不平，决定去信反驳。
文娴获悉去国障碍己除之后，突然对前途充满畏惧，竭斯底里，令敏贞非常同情，而在她费尽唇舌之后，终于母亲首肯，接待文娴。
这是六四后的香港，雨云密布，政治神经紧张，敏贞探访好友卓妮，一看到她摆布的“核电女神”讽刺舞剧，听她追述在北京的六四经过，心有戚戚，她访寻昔日的阿家恩人，以殖民地为家，决与香港共存亡的香港立法局英籍议员杜叶锡恩，但仍难释其迷惘。
另方面，惴惴不安的文娴，尽管谨谨慎慎地会见两老，依然弄得不欢而散，心理失掉平衡的她，又竟在离别派对上，与佳俊弄出自杀惊魂。
但尽管爱情无奈，世情难测，浮世中的梦者，仍是在希望中苏醒的……
