Jazz at the Philharmonic fans read no farther; Thievery Corporation's respect for the label begins in the early '60s -- Jazz Samba Encore! is a major touchstone -- and focuses mostly on breezy Brazilian pop (Jobim, the Gilbertos, Walter Wanderley, Sergio Mendes) as well as acid jazz precursors like Wes Montgomery or Jackie & Roy. Still, this is more than just another new-generation hipster's Talkin' Verve compilation. Thievery Corporation are veteran DJs and obsessive record collectors, so they know how to put together a mix album, balancing a bare few well-known classics with a raft of unreleased gems. And yes, there are a lot of rarities: almost half of the tracks are seeing CD release for the first time (in America, that is), and the track listing includes comparatively obscure names like Kenyon Hopkins, the Jazz Renegades, and Wynton Kelly. One for the collectors and archivists, then; a great mix for laid-back afternoon drinking sessions, definitely not The Greatest Hits of Verve. 一张把老歌拿来再次重新录制的好碟。虽然说是炒冷饭，但是却炒的又香又浓又毫无破绽阿阿阿阿阿!!!!!整张合辑除了舒服还是舒服，大概50~60代很红的Bossa Jazz都被收在裏面了，有Stan Getz、Luiz Bonfa、Astrud Gillberto、还有Cal Tjader，内容真的很饱满，不过令我失望的是他们只是重新录制，并没有加入一些新东西进去，所以还是炒冷饭。后安莉公司最近好像也在干发合辑这档事儿...感觉好像满好玩的。题外话，结论就是，这是一张有口碑保证的合辑，请那些买滥合辑买到怕的听眾再给自己的耳朵一次机会吧!!! 这张专辑在民生路与新美街交叉路口的髮轩创意髮型工作室里面也会不定期播放，一边剪头髮还可以边听Bossa Nova多棒阿!!! 这样意图会太明显吗~haha. These virgin, unremixed tracks taken from the 1960s Verve vaults were a major influence on Thievery Corporation's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton years before they spun epic documents like The Mirror Conspiracy. Their time capsule is a bubbling, Brazilian soul-jazz blast, starting with the sensuous "Menina Flor" by Stan Getz and Luis Bonfa. Jimmy Smith's "Road Song" is a classic of '60s hard bop, while Kenyon Hopkins's "Hard Latin" shows the kind of groovy organ jazz that was popular in bars from Philly to hot 'Lanta. Things go left with Cal Tjader's "The Fakir," a day-glo Middle Eastern track influenced by Coltrane's "My Favorite Things," while Astrud Gilberto pulls a Nancy Sinatra on another freaky standout, "Light My Fire."
