He was raised between Reparto Metropolitano in San Juan and Levittown, Toa Baja. He graduated from Colegio Pedro Albizu Campo and studied psychology for three years at Turabo University. Since he was nine years old, he was exposed to American music, but took special interest in english rap and hip hop. Frank was part of different street gangs in his hometown and started to visit and participate in street dog fights. He then decided to start organizing different house parties where “underground” became the gangs’ music. It was thanks to the mixture of such activities with his daily life experiences that gave him a genuine knowledge of the streets and inspired him to dedicate his life to produce rap in spanish. October 17 of 2002 was the beginning of a hard and painful time for everyone at Buddha’s Family; Frank and Tempo were arrested for Possession and Traffic of Narcotics. Both were arrested for an alleged conspiracy in the management of a drug ring in Lirios, Ponce, where Tempo was born and raised. They were detained without bail due to an alleged flight risk and spent the next two years in the Guaynabo Detention Center. The lyrics to a song written and interpreted by Tempo in Game Over and Tempo Éxitos were used as evidence, for it allegedly confessed the negotiations and administration of the drug ring. At that moment, it became clear the persecution of the genre by the authority and government in Puerto Rico. The trial lasted more than a month and on July 27, 2004 Frank was declared innocent of all charges. Today, Frank is a free man and is working to once again popularize and dominate the spanish rap genre the way he once did. He continues to manage Buddha’s Production with the help of the company’s CEO, Irene Castillo. Some of the company’s many projects include the campaign “Free Tempo”, which began the day he was declared innocent and will continue until Tempo is given, a second chance for, in their opinion, a fair trial. Buddha’s Family continues in production with international artists Gastam, Ceja, and Cosculluela, who “bring gangster rap and what is real to the streets”.
