Solar Stone and Ben Lost are in control of the mixing, but it is the tracks themselves that showcase what Lost Language is all about. Disc one is Solar Stone, who begins with an driving progressive track; Accadia – Blind Visions (Harry Peat Mix), and straight away I’m pleasantly surprised that the CD isn’t completely trance. Then a glance at the full tracklisting, and names like Andy Moor, Steve Porter, Ian Wilkie, Force Mass Motion etc make me realise the quality of ‘trance’ on offer from Lost Language. The great names featured help show the diversity of the trance sound that makes up the sound of the record label, and even though it may all full under the title of ‘trance’ – it definitely showcases a plethora of sub-genres within. Now enough of the word trance, and more about the CDs on offer. The thumping epic of Accadia – Into The Dawn is a highlight, and it is James Holden’s trademark bassline in his remix that makes it that little bit better. A truly excellent track, but unfortunately the mix into Solar Stone’s own Release isn’t quite that good. It surprises me that the mixing throughout the CD is so simple, but it seems to just minimally attach the tracks together for easier listening. An accapella of Elizabeth Fields – Speak In Symphony is layered over 2 Players – Signet (Leama & Moor Remix), but that’s about as far as the mixing skills go. The ever-impressive Steve Porter serves up a beautiful progressive remix of Roland Klinkenburg – Inner Laugh, and then the wavy trance takes over with Solar Stone – Seven Cities and Salt Tank – Eugina. Even though this isn’t particuarly my thing, this style of trance is huge, and I hear nothing but praise for Solar Stone’s own production work. With so many quality tracks on the first CD, it’s amazing to think that they all came from the same record label. Ben Lost takes the reins of disc two and dishes out some new trance ‘classics’, as well as the odd anthem. Opening with the now famous wonderkids, U&K, remix of Quadrophonic – I Can Feel Your Love, and then into the tribal percussions and epic chords of Lustral – Everytime (Nalin & Kane Mix). One of the kings of progressive trance, Max Graham, re-works Cultivate – Broken Pieces with some filtered riffs and an uplifting peak. The first three tracks are all excellent, and have wide appeal, as does Lost Language’s latest release; the Leama & Moor remix of Little Wonder – Eclipse. Quality track, and look out for the other remixes which exemplify diverse styles of trance. Epic is the only word to describe Solar Stone vs Scott Bond – 3rd Earth, as the vocal haunts combine with massive bass reverberations, and a unbelievably emotional string of chords. The classic Three Drives – Greece 2000 gets a play, and I guarantee it will bring back many memories for a lot of listeners. It is simply one of those hall-of-fame trance tracks that just seemed to layer chord upon chord so perfectly. Ending off the CD are two of the latest releases on Lost Language; Little Wonder is featured again, but with the Faraway Project Remix, and Goldenscan – Of Our Times (Super8 Remix). Think that old school Gatecrasher sound, and you get an idea of what is making the trance world spin at the moment. Exhibition is a quality release, and it showcases some of the unbelievably excellent tracks that have become part of the Lost Language stable, and look out for the complementing vinyl pack. Everything from old classics like Greece 2000 and new developments like the James Holden remix of Accadia – Into The Dawn are featured, and help show the diversity behind trance and Lost Language. Quality release for a quality label.
