Only this time, there was one notable exception: Landfermann, the man responsible for the schizophrenic vomitting insanity (also known as vocals) on the previous album. Enter Marco Kehren, also of Deinonychus. The best was to portray the difference between vocalists would be this: Landfermann sounded homicidal, whereas Kehren sounds suicidal. For this sort of subject matter, high praise indeed. Musically, the songs continue in the same vein as the previous Bethlehem album, with a few new, experimental touches, such as the almost industrial feel of "Nexus", and the clean vocals on "Als ich noch Caulerpa Taxifolia erbrach" (As I puked another Caulerpa Taxifolia). The inclusion of Cathrin Campen's soliloquies on a few tracks is also very welcome, adding a contrast from Kehren's mournful wailing. As always with Bethlehem, there's a lot of conflict between light and dark - one minute the band is bludgeoning you across the back of the head with a seriously down-tuned, almost dirge-like riff, then suddenly everything will give way to Matton's clean guitars, which, in a way, are more powerful and atmospheric than the "dark metal" beating you've just received.
